Ghosts appear and fade away
Though it has always been movingly beautiful, the true essence of this song, indeed all of his music, was obscured by the zeitgeist and production values of the 80's, minimalist as they may have been.
But in Colin Hay's reincarnation as a shaman, elder statesman and erstwhile survivor of that tragic decade, he has reemerged able to cast musical spells with notes that we simply were unable to hear in the original versions of his music.
These notes were there all along. The only thing that has changed is our ability to perceive them in detail suitable to their beauty.
So it is with most things.
